Allied Joint Publication (AJP)-6, Allied Joint Doctrine for Communication and Information Systems is the NATO level 2 doctrine that covers communication and information systems (CIS). Published in 2024, it has been tailored to UK specific requirements by including UK national elements, (UKNE’s) thereby enabling it to replace the now archived UK only CIS publication Joint Doctrine Publication (JDP) 6-00. This article explains the reasons behind this change and the development process of the publication. This article will also explore and demystify the wider doctrine development process by explaining what doctrine is, its relevance and examine the basic development process in a little detail. This will provide the grounding for exploring AJP-6 itself. I conclude by encouraging interested parties to actively participate in future doctrine development
