The Deane-Drummond Prize. Maj Gen A J Deane-Drummond CB DSO MC & Bar was an officer of the Corps whose career was mostly spent with airborne forces, commando forces and special forces; he commanded 22 SAS in Malaya and Oman and a division in the British Army of the Rhine. Previously awarded for essay writing by junior officers on topics set by the Corps Col, in 2022 the Deane-Drummond Prize was updated and integrated into the new Corps HQ officer development programme. Its purpose is now to stimulate and inform the dialogue of contemporary challenges, risks and issues facing the Corps. The annual Prize is open to all serving Regular and Reserve Warrant Officers and junior Officers. It encourages a short conceptual investigation and report on a contemporary subject; contributions serving to further the thought leadership of the challenges facing the Corps. Shortlisted written entries are invited to orally present to a cross-cutting Corps Panel, chaired by the Corps Col, with the prize winners announced at the Corps Autumn Guest Night.
