International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Coincident with this, the Royal Signals celebrated the opportunities open to women with a ‘Women in Technology’ exhibition in partnership with the Royal Signals Museum on 8 March 2024. The exhibition not only celebrated the opportunities service in the Corps and wider Army provides for women but strongly illustrated “the offer” to all regardless of gender.
The exhibition was made possible with the support of Spectra Group (UK) Ltd, who for over 20 years has forged a position as a leader in tactical communications, keeping soldiers connected in the harshest and most austere environments. Many within Spectra's ranks served within the Royal Signals, their expertise honed during service in the Corps. This understanding of the soldier's needs fuels Spectra's innovation, driving them to develop solutions that are not just technically brilliant, but truly soldier-proof. Spectra has corporate membership of the Royal Signals Institution.
The exhibition continued “on the road” and moved to RMA Sandhurst. Given the rich professional experiences covered in each of the narratives, it has been repeated in print within the Royal Signals Journal. The collection of personal stories provides a clear overview of the lived experience within the Army generally and the Royal Corps of Signals specifically.
