The History of 220 Signal Squadron and its Redesignation as 243 Gurkha Signal Squadron

220 Signal Squadron was recently redesignated and resubordinated to the Brigade of Gurkhas. To capture the Squadron’s history since its formation in 1959, the Squadron’s staff have complied a comprehensive chronology. It contains support to RAF airfields, use of tropospheric scatter and more resent roles in support of Operation Olympic and a complete departure from airfield communications to the adoption of tactical communication systems. The story ends with the Squadron’s redesignation at 243 Gurkha Signal Squadron in April 2025.
