The Chief of the General Staff (CGS) has directed the British Army to “double its fighting power in three years and triple it by the end of the decade”. This is a direct response to the evolving threat emerging from the conflict in Ukraine, where we have seen a distinct shift from an era of network-centric to data-centric tactical communications and information systems.
The UK’s ability to transition to the data-centric era will determine who wins or loses future conflicts. Tactical communications in this new era will need to be adaptable and interoperable, easy to integrate with, and able to optimise to work within bandwidth constrained and intermittently connected networks.
