On 13 November 2025, the Royal Signals Institution (RSI) welcomed serving personnel, veterans, industry partners, and distinguished guests to London’s prestigious Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane for an evening that showcased the very best of the Corps’ professionalism, innovation, and ethos.

400 attendees gathered first in the Gold and Silver Rooms for a reception before moving through to the Ballroom, where the Institution marked its third year dining at The Dorchester — an indication of the RSI’s growing influence and strengthened industry partnerships.

The Call to Dinner

RSI Chair Brigadier Rich Byfield opened the evening with a warm welcome, reflecting on the Institution’s expanding professional calendar and the exceptional support of its 40 Corporate Members — support that enables the RSI to deliver lectures, seminars, publications, and its flagship awards programme. The assembled audience then heard from General Sir Jim Hockenhull, Commander Cyber & Specialist Operations Command who offered his insight into the Command’s business and wider Defence.

After dinner service and the loyal toasts, the Master of Signals, Lieutenant General Paul Griffiths CB delivered his address in which he emphasised the many strengths and achievements of the Royal Signals before the highlight of the evening: the presentations of the 2025 RSI Awards.

The Corps’ high level awards represent the pinnacle of Royal Signals recognition, celebrating exceptional service, achievement and contribution across a broad spectrum of professional endeavour. These include the prestigious Princess Mary Medal, awarded to full members of the RSI whose impact has significantly enhanced the performance, reputation or standing of the Corps, and the RSI Silver Medal, which marks notable individual achievement or sustained dedicated service. Alongside these, the Master of Signals Award recognises important contributions that fall below the thresholds of the PMM or Silver Medal and is open to non Corps personnel. The portfolio also encompasses the RSI Medal for Adventurous Endeavour, awarded for excellence in exploration, expeditions and extreme sport, and the newly established Outstanding Royal Signals Instructor award, which highlights the commitment and excellence of instructors delivering training across Defence. Completing the suite is the Master of Signals Commendation, which acknowledges valuable service or achievement — particularly on operations — and is open to individuals outside the Corps. Commendations are presented at unit level.
